David Prowse dies at 86

David Prowse gained worldwide fame as Darth Vader in George Lucas’s original Star Wars trilogy.

British actor David Prowse, best known for his role as Darth Vader in the classic trilogy of the Star Wars film saga, has died at the age of 86. This was reported by his agency Bowington Management on Sunday, November 29.

“It is with deep regret and heartbreaking sadness for us and millions of fans around the world that our client, David Prowse, passed away at the age of 85,” the agency said on its Twitter account.

Actor Thomas Bowington’s agent also confirmed that Prowse died of illness.

David Prowse gained worldwide fame as Darth Vader in George Lucas’s original Star Wars trilogy (1977-1983). The actor wore a hero costume and the voice of the character was American actor James Earl Jones.

Before playing Darth Vader, Prowse rose to fame in the UK as the first actor to star in the Green Cross Code road safety campaign. The actor had a cameo in A Clockwork Orange and also appeared in films such as Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell and The Horror of Frankenstein.

Prowse also participated in weightlifting and helped prepare actor Christopher Reeve for the role of Superman.
