Luis Castro: must be frank

Shakhtar Donetsk coach Luis Castro commented win over Dnipro-1 in the match of the 11th day of the Premier League.

– How did you manage to restore the team after the Champions League match?

– I have to be honest, we couldn’t prepare this game. The only thing we’re trying is to restore the guys in 48 hours and just get to the game.

– You really have a tight schedule, but you were preparing for this. How do you plan to spend the rest of the season at this pace?

– The biggest problem is the calendar. We ended last season with the Europa League semi-final and three days later we already started a new season. Without resting at all. Other teams that reached these stages of the European Cup had between 7 and 15 days off. We start a new season in three days. In this rhythm, there are many nuances of the game, the principles are forgotten, they are lost. We have no training to learn something new. We work only for restoration. And in addition to this busy schedule, a wave of covid hit us, some of the players were injured. We know that the Dnepr-1 now also suffers from certain personnel problems.

Now we live a life like this: we arrive, we go to games, we play. It probably takes 40 players to play games like this. I am not saying this in any way to protect myself. It’s just that the administrations of all the clubs need to understand how difficult it is to prepare a team now. This is a completely new challenge. And we look at all the championships, there are constant surprises everywhere. The same teams play very unstable.
