Elections in Chernivtsi under threat of disruption - CCA

In Chernivtsi, the second round of the mayoral elections is threatened

Several political parties reported on the termination of the mandate of their members of the electoral commissions of the precincts, compromising the legitimacy of the commissions.

In Chernivtsi, the local organizations of various parties on the eve of the second round of the mayoral elections ended the powers of their representatives, the members of the PEC. This compromises the correct organization of the vote, the press service of the Central Electoral Commission reported on Saturday, October 28.

“The Central Election Commission received information from the Territorial Election Commission of the city of Chernivtsi about the threat of a proper organization and conduct of the vote on the day of the re-voting in the elections of the mayor of Chernivtsi on November 29, 2020 “, says the press service.

According to the information, the Chernivtsi city TEC received submissions from local organizations of political parties on the early termination of the powers of the members of the district electoral commissions included in the commissions of these organizations, namely: from the Association of Ukraine Batkivshchyna – 216 members of the PEC; European Solidarity Party: 128 members of the PEC; the Nash Krai party – 85 members of the PEC; Hometown Party – 15 PEC members. At the same time, it is noted that the applications of persons who renounced the powers of the members of the district electoral commissions were not presented to the presentations.

At the same time, the parties did not provide statements by the representatives themselves regarding the resignation of powers by the members of the precinct electoral commissions.

The CEC emphasized that such actions can create obstacles in the proper preparation of the re-vote for the Chernivtsi mayor elections. In particular, there may be problems with the legitimacy of committee meetings, due to the lack of the minimum number of members required for the meeting. In addition, problems may arise with the required number of votes to make commission decisions and count votes.

Now, the CEC is taking steps to ensure the proper organization of the re-voting in Chernivtsi, calling on parties and members of the electoral commissions to be equally responsible and aware of their role in ensuring the electoral process.

The Commission also recalled that the failure to appear at the electoral commission meeting on Election Day constitutes a serious violation of the law and the basis for the early termination of the powers of a member of the PEC, and responsibility has been established criminal for eluding the members of the electoral commission from the performance of their duties in the commission’s work without good reason.

We will remember, a few days before, near Kiev, that they tried to block the work of the electoral commission.

As reported, on Monday the CEC announced the results of the mayoral elections of three cities: Uzhgorod, Berdyansk and Slavyansk.
