Oreshnikov was released, returns to Ukraine
Oreshnikov only received Ukrainian citizenship in 2016. When he was detained in Indonesia, he was registered as Russian.
Mikhail Oreshnikov, detained at the request of Russia in Iterpol, is returning to Ukraine, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said on Twitter.
“We have returned the Ukrainian citizen Mikhail Oreshnikov from Indonesia, where Russia tried to take over, using Interpol for their political persecution. We did not allow this to be done, ”the minister wrote.
The plane with Oreshnikov is already flying to Kiev, Kuleba added.
“Ukrainian passport = protection of the Ukrainian state”, summed up the foreign minister.
Oreshnikov was detained at the Jakarta airport on November 6 at the request of the Russian Federation, since he himself is Russian and received Ukrainian citizenship only in 2016.
