The day before, a nuclear physicist who is considered one of the founders of the Iranian nuclear program was killed near Tehran.

Iranian authorities promise to respond to the assassination of the head of the country’s Defense Ministry’s research and innovation organization, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. This statement was made by the advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Hossein Dehgan, the Mehr news agency reported.

“We will strike like lightning at the martyr’s killers,” he said.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also said the assassination of a nuclear physicist will not go unanswered.

“This crime will not go unanswered at the right time,” he said.

Recall that one of the founders of Iran’s nuclear program, the nuclear scientist Mukhsin Fakhrizadeh, was assassinated near Tehran the day before. First, a suicide bomber exploded on the spot and then other attackers fired at the scientist’s car.
