First, the presidential couple visited the memorial sign to the Holodomor victims in Mikhailovskaya Square, and then the Bitter Memory of Childhood sculpture.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Elena Zelenskaya on Saturday November 28 commemorated the victims of the Holodomor in Ukraine.
In the morning, they visited a memorial sign to the victims of the Holodomor on Mikhailovskaya Square in Kiev.
After that, they arrived at the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide of 1932-33, where they were awaited by the head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko, director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Anton Drobovich.
The participants of the ceremony marched in a gloomy procession to the sculpture Bitter Memory of the Childhood, in which they installed symbolic compositions with grain and bowed before the memory of the victims. The ceremony ended with a minute of silence.
“The National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide project is very important for Ukraine: for our history and future. There were certain problems with the financing of this project. However, such projects must be carried out without fail. I gave instructions to the Cabinet of Ministers, and this issue will be resolved on Monday. The project will definitely be completed, “Zelensky said.
On November 30, the Cabinet of Ministers will prepare a decree that will open opportunities for additional financing of the project of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide complex.
