Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to improve relations with the United States and Western countries due to the differences that arose with Russia.
Bloomberg reports.
According to the newspaper, the contradictions between the Russian Federation and Turkey arose because of Syria, Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh. In all these conflicts, countries were supported by different parties.
At the same time, the victory of US President Joe Biden in the elections and the threat of European sanctions are pushing the Turkish leadership to restore good relations with the West.
Russia and Turkey, following Erdogan’s deteriorating relations with Western leaders, deepened their cooperation in the military sphere.
In particular, Turkey bought the Russian S-400 air defense systems. This decision generated criticism and US sanctions.
The two countries also agreed to jointly monitor compliance with the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh, where the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan took place.
