The attackers use the messenger of Telergam
According to the Interior Ministry, cybercriminals use the Telergam messenger for their fraudulent schemes.
The Interior Ministry warned Ukrainians of a new type of fraud in the Telegram messenger, when attackers borrow money from a person posing as their friend. This was announced on Friday, November 27, by the press center of the Ministry of the Interior.
“The scheme is as follows: your friends receive a message as if it were from your account. Your photo, however, your number is hidden. Unknown people are applying for a loan,” writes the press service.
Law enforcement officials urge you to be vigilant.
If you receive such a message, it is best to call this person and ask if they sent a similar request.
The Home Office also gives advice on how to avoid becoming a victim of Internet scammers:
-
Do not provide personal information on unfamiliar sites. Passport and payment data, phone number, username and password on the Internet should be provided only if you are 100% sure that it is on official sites.
-
Do not make large prepayments for purchases in the online store. It is better to use the purchase method: cash on delivery. Then you can receive the goods, inspect them, and then pay.
-
Don’t use other people’s suspicious services or offers.
-
Check financial aid applications, even if they come from the account of acquaintances and friends
-
Configure double authentication in messengers
-
If you suspect that the page has been hacked, please terminate all messaging sessions on all devices through settings
The day before, it was reported that call centers that deceived EU citizens were liquidated in Kiev. A criminal plan was in effect for three years. About a thousand operators attended.
In the Kharkiv region, two scammers who offered the post of regional governor for one million dollars were arrested.
