The prominent Iranian scientist, nuclear physicist, and one of the founders of Iran’s nuclear program, Mohsin Fakhrizade-Mahabadi, was killed in the Absard settlement near Tehran.
This was announced on November 27 by Press TV, citing sources.
Iranian media admit that Fakhrizade was the victim of a terrorist attack. According to some reports, first a suicide bomber blew himself up near the car and then unknown individuals fired at the car. According to others, the bomb was placed under the bottom of the car.
In addition to the scientist, two more people died. These are probably his relatives who were with him at the time of the assassination attempt.
The first versions about the organizers of the attack are already being advanced: the Israeli special services may be involved in it, since the nuclear engineer was assassinated a few days after the secret visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mossad chief Yossi Cohen to Saudi Arabia.
In connection with the assassination attempt, units of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were put on high alert.
Fahrizadeh previously served in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, held a high-level position in the logistics center of the Iranian Defense Ministry, and also headed the Center for Physical Research. According to Wikipedia, he is involved in Project Amad, a secret Iranian research program from 2000-2003 that aimed to develop and test a nuclear warhead for a ballistic missile.
Several years ago, he was already killed, but then he managed to survive.
As for the Amad project, according to the IAEA, it was abruptly stopped in late 2003, after receiving an order from senior Iranian officials. The equipment and workplaces of the personnel involved in the project were destroyed.
Rana “Strana” reported on Netanyahu’s visit to the Prince of Saudi Arabia, which is associated with the murder of the scientist.
