The intention of Moldovan President-elect Maia Sandu to seek the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria is aimed at undermining efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement. The presence of the Russian army in Transnistria ensures stability in the region.

This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, during a briefing.

“We believe that this statement is aimed at undermining efforts to peacefully resolve the Transnistrian issue,” he said.

At the same time, Zakharova added that “peacekeepers” have been present in Transnistria for 25 years.

“We would like to remind you that for 25 years in the region where the Russian peacekeepers are present, stability has been preserved, no blood has been shed, no shots have been heard,” he stressed.

We will recall, previously Maia Sandu said that she would seek the withdrawal of the Russian Forces Task Force from the region.

Earlier, Sandu said in a comment to RBC-Ukraine that he would soon meet with the President of Ukraine.

In addition, after the announcement of the election results, Sandu said that Moldova will establish friendly relations with Ukraine.
