Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko said that if Ukraine does not start taking stricter measures due to the coronavirus, by February 2021, 10 million Ukrainians will be sick.
Channel 24 reports.
«Now there is a huge wave of morbidity, so if nothing is done, by February we will have 10 million sick people, “he said.
According to Gerashchenko, Ukraine must introduce a strict quarantine as soon as possible and the government is preparing compensation programs for companies.
The deputy director of the Ministry of the Interior added that in the next meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, this issue will again be submitted for decision.
«Quarantine with compensation package for small and medium businesses, for employees. But in those cases in which the business will be limited in its activities, “he said.
Also, the Avakov deputy said that in October there was a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, in which the issue of the weekend quarantine was decided.
Subsequently, the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Culture and the Minister of Digital Transformation stated that they considered that all the measures introduced were insufficiently effective.
«But they were in the minority. Perhaps now, due to such a public statement from the head of the Interior Ministry, other ministers will listen to him and make a balanced decision, ”said Gerashchenko.
Avakov was previously reported to be in favor of the earliest possible introduction in Ukraine of a blockade for a period of three to four weeks.
Is Ukraine going to have a total blockade?
Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said the government is considering a plan to introduce a tough lockdown in Ukraine, but this is only an alternative in case the weekend quarantine doesn’t work out.
According to the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk Ruslan Martsinkiv, it is possible that a total blockade will be introduced in the country in December, and the relevant issue has already been discussed in a meeting with the prime minister.
In turn, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy, Alexander Tkachenko, proposed planning a two-week shutdown in Ukraine for Christmas and New Years.
