The State Inspectorate for the Environment believes the spill occurred from the Amethyst ship

Employees of the State Ecological Inspection registered polluting spots on the surface of the water with petroleum products and noticed traces of the sorbent. A report of a crime was sent to the police, the prosecution and the RRB.

The State Environmental Inspectorate said that an oil spill occurred in the Black Sea near the city of Chornomorsk, probably from the Amethyst ship. The Seaport Administration (USPA) knew it, but hid it. This was announced on Thursday, November 26, by the press service of the State Environmental Inspection.

They said that the USPA did not promptly report the incident to the State Environmental Inspectorate, so a message was sent to the Prosecutor’s Office about the negligent attitude towards official duties of the employees of the USPA branch.

It should be noted that the State Environmental Inspectorate learned of the Amethyst ship oil spill from the media, although it should have been reported by the USPA. Having learned of the fact of the contamination of the Black Sea water area, the State Environmental Inspectorate made inquiries to the USPA State Enterprise, the Black Sea Branch of the USPA State Enterprise, the captain of the Chornomorsk sea port and in the order of interaction with the State Border Service of Ukraine. The USPA reported that no violations were found.

“Therefore, it was decided, within the framework of the interaction with the border guards, to approach the berth from the sea. As a result, our employees stained the water’s surface with petroleum products and noticed traces of a sorbent used to collect petroleum products from the water’s surface. That is, the USPA knew about this case and only wanted to hide the results of the disaster “- said the president of the State Environmental Inspectorate Andrei Malevany.

According to him, the inspectors took water samples from the contaminated part of the water area for laboratory analysis. Based on the results of the audit, the SEI will name the losses and find out who the owner of the vessel is.

“On the fact of hiding information about the ecological status of water resources, which negatively affects flora and fauna and the negligent attitude towards official duties of employees of the SE AMPU SEI branch in the Black Sea, it was sent a message about the commission of a crime to the Odessa Regional Prosecutor’s Office and the State Security Service in the city of Nikolaev, “in the message.

Also, on the fact of sea pollution, SEI sent a message about a crime to the Chernomorsky OP of the Ovidiopol OP GU NP in the Odessa region.

We will recall, on the eve it was reported that near Chernomorsk, the ship of the Marine Search and Rescue Service Amethyst is sinking. It was also reported that a slick of petroleum products had formed around the tugboat.

Today, the USPA officially announced that the Amestist ship did not sink and there was no oil spill.
