The certification company refused to continue working on the pipeline due to possible US sanctions.
Certification company DNV GL refused to cooperate with the Nord Stream-2 project. The company made that decision due to the threat of US sanctions, Interfax reported Thursday, November 26.
“The US Department of State has released a new clarification regarding the European Energy Safety Protection Act (PEESA). In accordance with these new guidelines, we found that DNV GL’s activities to monitor vessels with equipment serving the Nord Stream 2 project are subject to sanctions. Therefore, DNV GL has stopped providing services that may be subject to PEESA. DNV GL implements a robust program of compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including sanctions ” the company said.
At the same time, the Danish Energy Agency previously ruled that Nord Stream 2 can hire any third party who can provide a certificate of conformity, confirming that the facilities built comply with current legislation.
DNV GL participated in the project to verify the safety and technical integrity of this piping system. As a result, the company had to issue a certificate for the gas pipeline.
Recall that the construction of Nord Stream 2 was stopped almost a year ago due to US sanctions. And Washington’s new restrictions, to be adopted in the near future, may “bury” the project.
