The Foreign Ministry recalled how Belarus at one point did not react to provocations under the walls of the Ukrainian embassy in Minsk.
Ukraine strictly complies with the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and guarantees the security of foreign diplomatic missions on its territory, Kiev said.
The summons of the Ukrainian Ambassador Igor Kizim to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry and the delivery of a protest note regarding the actions near the Belarusian diplomatic missions in Ukraine is “an overly emotional and unfounded reaction”. This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the press service of the Foreign Ministry on Thursday, November 26.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine took into account the presentation of a protest note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus to the Ambassador of Ukraine in Belarus. We consider that the reaction of the Belarusian side is overly emotional and generally unfounded,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The diplomats recalled that for Ukraine, as a European democratic state, freedom of expression and freedom of assembly are of fundamental importance, so there is no reason to limit the right to peaceful protest in this situation. Furthermore, the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine are taking appropriate measures to ensure the safety of both the protesters and the Belarusian embassy and its employees on a permanent basis, especially during protests.
In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Ukraine clearly complies with the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and guarantees the security of foreign diplomatic missions on its territory.
“We hope that the Belarusian side will also treat its international obligations with due responsibility and avoid violations of diplomatic immunity such as unfounded searches of the diplomatic car of the Ukrainian ambassador to Belarus when crossing the border between Belarus and Ukraine,” noted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. .
The ministry also recalled that during the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine, the Belarusian side did not react to provocations from citizens who, under the walls of the Ukrainian embassy in Minsk, demonstrated their extremely hostile position towards Ukraine and the European course chosen by the Ukrainian people.
Let us remind you that on November 26, Ukrainian Ambassador Igor Kizim was summoned to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry in connection with the “continuing series of anti-Belarusian actions”.
As you know, after the start of the protests in Belarus on August 9, rallies were held near the country’s embassy in Kiev in support of Belarusians who did not agree with the election results.
Also on August 17, Ukraine withdrew its ambassador from Belarus for the first time. On August 28 it became known that Ukraine had suspended all contacts with Belarus.
