Merkel extended coronavirus restrictions in Germany until year-end

At the same time, the citizens of the Federal Republic are promised that they will be relaxed for the Christmas holidays.

The partial quarantine regime in Germany will last until December 20, Chancellor Angela Merkel said after speaking with the heads of federal states. The briefing was broadcast on Wednesday, November 25, on the government website.

“For now, the measures will continue to operate until December 20. We assume that the restrictions will be in effect until early January,” Merkel said.

The Chancellor stressed that the restrictions previously imposed have slowed exponential growth, but the number of infections registered in the country is still too high.

“The infection curve has smoothed out, but this result cannot be satisfied,” Merkel said.

It should be noted that starting in early December, private meetings will be allowed only with a composition of no more than five people from two families.

For the period from December 23 to January 1, that is, for all Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the rules will be temporarily relaxed: during this period, gatherings with a maximum of ten people will be allowed, regardless of the family. In addition, the authorities will tighten the rules to visit the points of sale, for every 10 square meters. m. One visitor may be admitted from the area, and in regions with a particularly tense situation for schoolchildren from the eighth grade on, training will be introduced in several shifts.

The quarantine regime has been in force in Germany from November 2, originally planned to last until December, but the dynamics of the spread of the infection did not decrease to the desired level. Now the restaurants, bars and other gastronomic establishments in the country are closed, the sale of food and drinks only to take away is allowed. Gyms, tattoo parlors, swimming pools, massage and beauty studios, theaters, movie theaters, and concert halls have ceased to function. This scheme is called “partial closure” in Germany, since schools and kindergartens as well as shopping malls operate.

In total, more than 532 thousand people were infected in the country, 14.7 thousand died from COVID-19 The last day in Germany became a record for the number of deaths registered by coronavirus: 410.
