Football.ua evaluates the actions of Dynamo Kiev players in the fourth round match of the UEFA Champions League.

The door to the playoffs of the main Old World club tournament slammed shut for Dynamo Kiev two rounds before the end of the group round. Such a result at the end of this stage could have been foreseen even at the time of the draw, but the game of Mircea Lucescu’s team was too promising, despite horrible personnel problems. The “blue and white” in the second leg against Barcelona looked pretty good, but the second half of his performance contained too many mistakes at individual and team level.

Football.ua evaluates the play of Dynamo Kiev players in the match at the Olympic NSC (on a 10-point scale).

Dynamo Kiev

Georgy Buschan – 4.0. Rivals put much less stress on the Kievites goalkeeper, compared to Ruslan Neshcheret in the match at Camp Nou. Buschan made three saves per game, exactly the same as Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Most of them were part of the standard goalkeeper workload in the Champions League match and were executed without a hitch, but the four goals conceded still painfully impact the impression of the player’s play in this role.

Tomasz Kendera – 4.0. The Polish flank defender moved well in the attack at the end of the first half, showing a good start in his zone for the second half of the match, however, the Barcelona players read a possible bias of the Dynamo offense towards the right flank, so they got ahead of the curve. The Kievans could count on the completion of the match in attacking actions with the help of Kendzera, but Alba’s departure eventually dampened the warm prospects.

Ilya Zabarny – Vitaly Mikolenko – 4.0. The pair in the center of the Dynamo defense, like all the other players in this line, remained in good cohesion until the first ball conceded. Edge and end-to-end transmissions were confidently intercepted, zones overlapped in a timely manner, even the first transmissions were somehow distributed.

However, Dynamo failed, and then Zabarny could afford to miss Mingesa by taking a corner, and Mikolenko didn’t always have time to keep track of Dest, even as he went straight to the flank. It could have been a good game on the part of these two players, but (!), If it ended with a “zero” in the column of “goals scored” for Barcelona.

Alexander Karavaev – 3.5. The Ukrainian had to stop two of the rivals’ most prominent players on his flank, so Alexander had very little chance of success. Karavaev spent most of the time in his half of the field, never to re-expose the flank, which was the right decision. However, in a head-to-head showdown with his rivals, he struggled to win in the national team, and it is better not to mention the precision of the passes to aggravate once again.

Vladimir Shepelev – 4.0. Vladimir had to repeat Denis Garmash’s functionality, but only with a lot of moves in the support zone, yet he produced another match of mediocre quality. 0 won duels with an opponent, fumble and a small number before aggravation. In this game, Shepelev did little, so Lucescu played the final with Beluta in Vladimir’s position.

Denis Garmash – 4.5. The midfielder was a true Cerberus in the Dynamo’s backing zone, biting down on opponents’ legs at the first convenient opportunity. Garmash has 9 successful matches out of 14 in 59 minutes of play; a couple of Barça defenders have achieved less together. Lucescu’s desire to make life difficult for opponents in positional attacks was understandable, and the player’s choice in such conditions was obvious, but the episode with the first miss spoiled everything for the passive play of the support zone.

Nikolai Shaparenko – 3.5. Nikolay started the game again with pronounced emotion, so it was consumed in the first half, as eloquently indicated by his reaction to one of the failed ball reception episodes in another half. It is not Shaparenko’s job to take the balls away from him, but he could not offer anything qualitatively in attack either. Even the most destructive teammates were more noticeable at ball work that night.

Vitaly Buyalsky – 5.0. The Kiev attacking midfielder in this match was remembered for his stubbornness and willingness to play until the final whistle. They were stimulated, perhaps, by surrounding partners with poor implementation. Switching roles with them didn’t work out: With the one such attempt, Verbic took the ball off his foot as he tried to complete the cross from the right flank.

Carlos De Pena – 5.5. The Uruguayan tried on his shoulders to ensure the speed of the team’s attacks, but to the same extent he was forced to exercise in defense, because it was strictly forbidden to leave Karavaev face to face with two opponents. De Pena showed himself well, but couldn’t complete the created situations (how much do we have to say about this in the context of this game …). And he had 1.5 clear chances in the allotted 70 minutes.

Benjamin Verbich – 4.0. Everything that Buyalsky bit into with the battles on the other side was successfully reduced to nothing by Verbic. The problem in the final stage, in the presence of a clearly expressed desire to score goals, nullified all the efforts of the Slovenian during the match. The best moments of this match were precisely on Benjamin’s account and, of course, it will remind him of that ball that took Buyalsky’s foot off in the first half.

Alexander Andrievsky – 4.0. Tenacious Garmash or Andrievsky, who plays well in zones: Lucescu had a rather interesting option before this game for the position of defensive midfielder. The coach’s preferences were transferred to Denis, and Alejandro was thrown like a “log” into the fire, which Barcelona had already lit. It is for this reason that Andrievsky was hardly noticed in the destruction: the rivals already knew that it was possible to open the Kiev defense in other ways than through the zone directly in front of someone else’s penalty area.

Denis Popov – 2.0. It is difficult to imagine the worst case scenario for a central defender to enter as a substitute during the match. Brightwaite Popov was saved from direct ejection in the episode with a shove to the back only by updating football rules in the direction of refusing “double punishment” and clearly depriving him of the opportunity to score a goal. Denis made a serious mistake in this situation and then lost sight of Antoine Griezmann with Barcelona’s fourth goal, too much for a half-hour part of play.

Vladislav Supryaga – 3.5. The forward was quite a notorious figure in his movements on the field, after his appearance on the field, but, like Lednev, who went out with him on a schedule, he only saw the ball at the feet of the other players.

Bogdan Lednev – 3.5. Bogdan made nine touches of the ball in the 19th minute after entering as a substitute, so we can assume that there was no reinforcement of the team game due to his appearance.

Todor Belucé He entered the field seven minutes before the end of regulation time, but his position as a defensive midfielder could hardly have time to show itself in attack actions; on defense, the Dynamo had already conceded three times at that point.
