On Tuesday, November 24, deputies from the European Solidarity, Varta and Svoboda factions held the first meeting of the Lviv City Council, despite statements by Mayor Andriy Sadovy about an attempt to usurp power.

According to Zaxid.net, the meeting had the minimum number of deputies for a quorum: 34 out of 64. Deputies from Samopomich and Golos did not attend the meeting, describing the decision to convene the session as undemocratic.

Since the results of the elections for the mayor of Lviv have not been officially announced, TEC city chief Igor Slipetsky assumed the presidency of the session.

At the first meeting, the deputies of the three factions took the oath and elected an interim presidium, which will manage the City Council sessions and draw up the agenda until Andrei Sadovy takes office.

Solidarity MEP Pyotr Adamyk, who became a member of the Presidium, said that within 10 days an agenda will be drawn up and a new meeting will be called to continue the session. At the same time, Igor Slipetsky said that the results of the mayoral elections will be officially announced within three days, and in the next session of the session, the new mayor will be able to take the oath.

For his part, Lviv Deputy Mayor for Development Andriy Moskalenko explained that, by his decision, the newly elected MPs removed Andriy Sadovy from fulfilling the powers of the mayor, and the formed presidium can actually assume the powers of mayor.

“This is called a coup in a civilized society. The president of the TEC swore in the deputies without swearing in the mayor. This is the first time this has happened. And so the president of TEC removed the elected mayor from his powers, ”Moskalenko wrote on Facebook.

Recall that the Lviv City TEC postponed the first session of the 8th convocation of the Lviv City Council from December 3 to November 24.

This decision angered the mayor of Lviv, Andrey Sadovy, who won the second round of the mayoral elections, but failed to take the oath for the first session of the City Council. Promised to appeal «“illegal” decision.

Sadovy accused the deputies of the European Solidarity, who obtained the majority in the city council, of trying «usurpation of power ”. According to the legislation, the deputies will be able to take practically all the decisions without the participation of the newly elected mayor.
