Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes the expected increase in the incidence of coronavirus infection in the country can be contained.
On November 23, in a conference call on the situation with COVID-19, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, positively evaluated the results of the “weekend quarantine” introduced in the country. The website of the head of state reports on this.
The “weekend quarantine” and the additional security measures are paying off. We must do our best to avoid a total lockdown. So far, statistics show that we have managed to contain projected growth [заболеваемости]”, – said the president.
Prior to that, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said that nearly 28,000 patients are in hospital treatment for COVID-19, “and this dynamic has continued for the past two weeks.”
The state’s chief medical officer, Viktor Lyashko, also noted that the weekly dynamics of incidence had stabilized.
On November 23, Zelenskiy announced his recovery from the coronavirus infection. He announced that he was going to work as usual.
The “weekend quarantine” in Ukraine came into effect on November 14 following the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers due to the increase in the number of COVID-19 patients. Several Ukrainian cities refused to introduce it due to the fact that such quarantine measures are ineffective and fraught with negative consequences for the economy.
Ukraine’s Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said last weekend, November 14-15, the “regular” quarantine was observed. These days, the police have closed 1,5 thousand shops, 800 catering establishments, 30 discotheques and 20 gyms. Regarding the facts of the violations, law enforcement officers carried out almost 2,000 administrative protocols and opened nine criminal proceedings.
As of November 23, 635,689 cases of coronavirus infection were registered in Ukraine, of which 10 945 – for the last day… 11,075 COVID-19 patients died, 291,060 people recovered.
