After the closure of the Ovidiopol Highway on November 22, traders at the 7 kilometer manufactured goods market promise to move the protest action under the Odessa Regional State Administration building on Shevchenko Avenue, the Dumskaya newspaper reported.

Traders at the 7 kilometer industrial market in Odessa on November 22 will continue protesting actions against quarantine restrictions near the Odessa Regional State Administration building, local newspaper Dumskaya writes on Telegram on November 23.

Yesterday, November 22, merchants blocked traffic on the Ovidiopol highway, causing traffic jams.

“The participants of the road blockade left the road early in the morning. Already around 7:00 am the way was opened. Today, the protest will continue in the regional administration building on Shevchenko Avenue,” it was reported.

“Dumskaya” writes that due to the roadblock yesterday, the police opened criminal proceedings. The actions of the protesters were qualified under Part 1 of Art. 279 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (blocking of transport communications). The sanction of this article provides up to three years in prison.

Odessa’s “kilometer 7” market is one of the largest in Europe. It covers an area of 75 hectares and employs about 60,000 people, according to the market’s Facebook page. Up to 200 thousand buyers visit “kilometer 7” daily.

The weekend quarantine went into effect on November 14. Several cities in Ukraine refused to introduce it. In particular, Odessa, Lvov, Dnipro, Zhitomir, Cherkassy, Lutsk, Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk opposed. City chiefs explained this by the fact that such quarantine measures are ineffective and fraught with negative consequences for the economy. Later in Odessa and Ivano-Frankivsk were quarantined over the weekend.

Protests after the introduction of the “weekend quarantine” took place in Chernivtsi and Kharkiv.

From November 14 to 15, the police closed 1,5 thousand stores, 800 catering establishments, 30 nightclubs and 20 gyms. Regarding the facts of the violations, law enforcement officers carried out almost 2,000 administrative protocols and opened nine criminal proceedings.

Ukraine’s Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said last weekend, November 14-15, the “regular” quarantine was observed.
