In the city of Budva (Montenegro) ended European Youth Boxing Championship 2020, which was attended by 175 athletes from 22 countries of the Old World.
The tournament was a great success for the Ukrainian national team, who won 15 medals of various denominations in Budva. Among them, 3 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze medals. This is the second indicator among all the countries participating in the competition and one of the best results in all the years of the team’s participation in the European Championships.
According to the results of the final fights, the European champions were: Ilya Togobitskiy in the weight category up to 75 kg, Nikita Gorbatenko in the weight category up to 91 kg and Yuri Zakhareev, which represents the weight category up to 69 kg. Belgorod-Dnestrovsky representative Yuri Zakhareev became a two-time European champion in Montenegro. In 2019, he also brought gold from Ukraine at the European Junior Championships, which was held in Bulgaria.
This year’s continental championship silver medalists were Roman Litvinov (52kg), Vasily Tkachuk (over 91kg), Marina Stoyko (64kg), Anna Sezko (69kg) and Yana Taranenko (81kg).
The youth Euro 2020 bronze awards were received by: Daniil Dryzhak (49 kg), Gennady Maslennikov (60 kg), Bozorboy Matyakubov (64 kg), Denis Salabay (81 kg), Ekaterina Bondarchuk (54 kg), Raisa Piskun (75 kg) and Victoria Levchuk (+81 kg).
Regarding the number of medals won, the Ukrainian team received one of the best results in its history. At the youth Euro-2019, the young Ukrainian had nine medals, including 1 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze. Now the men’s youth team under the leadership of head coach Oleg Kudinov, until the last moment, fought with the Russians for the first place of the team.
