The German government regrets that the United States has decided to withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty. This was announced on Sunday, November 22, by the head of the German Foreign Ministry, Heiko Maas, the department’s press service reported.

“We deeply regret that the United States has decided to take this step and has taken it now. Our position on this agreement has not changed; we consider the treaty to be an important part of the arms control architecture, a contribution to building trust. and mutual security in the northern hemisphere from Vladivostok to Vancouver, “he added. – said the minister.

At the same time, Maas added that Germany will continue to abide by this agreement.

Remember that the Open Skies Treaty grants its participants the right to fly over the territories of others to observe military activities. Before the US withdrawal, 34 of the 57 OSCE countries were parties to the agreement.

We will recall, earlier, the head of the State Department Mike Pompeo said that the United States officially withdrew from the Open Skies Treaty, as Russia does not comply with its obligations under it.

In this regard, the Russian Federation indicated that for its state, said treaty is losing viability.
