Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, addressing the G20 summit, said that the platform for this summit should prepare mechanisms for affordable and equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccine around the world.

The Turkish leader pointed out that during the pandemic, the world and mainly developed countries did not show solidarity and mutual assistance. Erdogan recalled that until today Turkey has provided free assistance to 15 G20 member countries.

The G20 platform should prepare and activate mechanisms to ensure affordable and equitable access to vaccines for all, stressed the head of Turkey.

Erdogan added that Turkey is in favor of fair global economic growth and the distribution of wealth according to the basic principles of the World Trade Organization.

The 15th Annual G20 Summit, which launched online on November 21, is being held under the theme “Making the opportunities of the 21st century a reality for all”. Its main theme is COVID-19 and countering the consequences of the pandemic.

The Turkish vaccine ERUCOV-VAC clinical trials against COVID-19 are carried out at the University of Erciyes. The first dose of the vaccine has already been administered to the volunteer. Turkey is developing 13 potential coronavirus vaccines.

An outbreak of coronavirus infection began in late 2019 in China. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the spread of the coronavirus a pandemic.

According to the US Johns Hopkins University, as of November 22, more than 58 million people fell ill with COVID-19 in the world. 1.38 million people died from this disease and 37.2 million recovered.

During the entire time of the pandemic in Turkey almost 441 thousand people have contracted the coronavirus. 12,2 thousand patients died in the country, almost 371 thousand recovered.
