The COVID-19 coronavirus vaccine produced by the American biotech company Moderna will cost between $ 25 and $ 37, depending on the volume of purchase. This was announced by the director of the company Stefan Bansel, reports Welt am Sonntag on Sunday, November 22.
“This is a fair price, considering how much it costs the healthcare system to treat a patient when they develop severe COVID-19,” Bansel said, adding that “we are not interested in maximizing profits.”
According to him, 20 million doses of the vaccine are planned to be produced by the end of the year, but only a small part will be delivered to Europe during this period. The company is interested in deliveries to Europe and, according to Bansel, reaching an agreement takes a matter of days.
It was previously known that the effectiveness of Moderna’s vaccine is more than 94%. It can prevent COVID-19 disease, including serious illness, the company said.
Recall that in August, the United States administration signed a contract with Moderna to purchase 100 million doses of an experimental coronavirus vaccine for more than $ 1.5 billion.
