Aliyev: Karabakh agreement ended long-term conflict

The ceasefire in the region is being respected thanks to the concluded peace agreement, said the President of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev declared that the Nagorno-Karabakh peace agreement ended the conflict in the long term. He said this in a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, reports trend.az on Saturday, November 21.

“After 44 days of armed struggle, hostilities, a document was signed, which I consider a very important political document, which essentially ends the long-term confrontation,” Aliyev emphasized.

The Azerbaijani leader says that Armenian provocations in the summer of 2020 ended with Baku launching an offensive in September.

He added that during the hostilities, 94 Azerbaijani civilians died, more than 400 were injured and more than 3,000 houses fell into disrepair.

The day before, the transfer of the territories from Karabakh to Azerbaijan began. Azerbaijan took control of the Agdam region and Armenia will also transfer part of the Kelbajar and Lachin regions.

In addition, Baku has named the time of demining in Karabakh. The Azerbaijani authorities intend to prepare a master plan for the restoration of the Karabakh territories.
