Putin explained the interference in the situation in Karabakh

The Russian Defense Ministry added that Russian peacekeepers have completed their deployment in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Russian President Vladimir Putin explained why Russia sent peacekeepers to Nagorno-Karabakh. This was reported by TASS on Friday, November 20.

Putin says this is important from an economic and internal security point of view.

“For us, for Russia, conflicts of this kind and their resolution are of particular importance, for us they are not empty words, considering that millions of Armenians and Azerbaijanis live in Russia,” Putin said.

According to the President of the Russian Federation, the situation in Karabakh has generally stabilized, pointing to the “clear and well-coordinated work of the Russian peacekeepers.”

For his part, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the Russian peacekeeping contingent has completed its deployment in Nagorno-Karabakh and has begun to fulfill its assigned tasks.

He said units from the 15th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, which forms the backbone of the peacekeeping force, were deployed to the conflict area.

“A total of 250 aircraft flights were carried out, 1,960 people and 552 teams were transported,” Shoigu said.

The head of the Russian Defense Ministry added that the Lachin corridor, which connects Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, has been completely cleared of mines.

“The Lachin corridor and the 28-kilometer section of the road to Stepanakert (Khankendi) with a length of 28 kilometers have been completely demined and cleared of explosive objects and equipment destroyed during the hostilities,” Shoigu said.

The safe movement of civilian vehicles has been open in the Lachin corridor since Nov. 17, Shoigu said.

“The additional task is to comply with the ceasefire at 23 observation posts. For the leadership of the peacekeeping operation, a command and control system has been deployed that allows a prompt response to changes in the situation. The General Staff has organized interaction and established direct channels of communication with the military departments of Azerbaijan and Armenia, “Shoigu said.

In addition, the commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, Rustam Muradov, reported on individual minor incidents in Karabakh.

“There have been no violations of the ceasefire or provocations. Representatives of the peacekeeping contingent on the ground are solving individual minor incidents,” Muradov said.

Earlier today, the transfer of territories from Karabakh to Azerbaijan began. Azerbaijan took control of the Agdam region and Armenia will also transfer part of the Kelbajar and Lachin regions.

Also in Baku, they called the deadlines for the demining of Karabakh. The Azerbaijani authorities intend to prepare a master plan for the restoration of the Karabakh territories.
