The WHO does not recommend the use of remdisivir in the treatment of coronavirus

The experts analyzed four studies on the use of the drug and did not see the point of using it.

The World Health Organization has recommended not using Remdisivir when treating COVID-19 patients, regardless of the severity of their illness. This is stated in a statement, which was published on Friday, November 20, on the WHO website.

It is noted that there is currently no evidence that this drug helps to effectively fight the coronavirus.

This recommendation is based on the findings of an international group of medical experts. The experts analyzed the results of four remdisivir studies, involving more than 7,000 patients.

The results showed that remdisivir does not have a “significant effect” in reducing the death rate from coronavirus, does not reduce the need for mechanical ventilation and does not improve other important medical criteria, the WHO said. An international group of experts concluded that more research is needed on the effectiveness of remdisivir in treating coronavirus.

Previously, the United States approved the drug Remdesivir for the treatment of coronavirus. It was developed to treat Ebola and has been shown to be safe for humans. It was later reported that the Ministry of Health will buy Remdesivir for the treatment of COVID-19.
