The number of deaths from COVID-19 in Ukraine by the end of the year may range from 17 to 33 thousand. At the Kiev School of Economics, three scenarios were considered:
- green writing (the most optimistic) – 17 thousand deaths, if a blockade is immediately introduced throughout Ukraine;
- yellow scenario – 26 thousand deaths if the weekend quarantine works;
- black scenario – 33 thousand deaths if the quarantine does not work.
Yuri Ganichenko, Principal Investigator at the KSE’s Department of Economic and Policy Research, called the green scenario unlikely.
The Kiev School of Economics called for extending the weekend quarantine restrictions to weekdays. According to the researchers, “only this will allow us to take control of the spread of the coronavirus.” At the same time, the CSE called for financial support to businesses and citizens.
In mid-October, the Kiev School of Economics predicted that by the end of the year from the coronavirus, 20 thousand people could die in Ukraine.
