The United States voted in favor of a bill in support of Ukraine, which should prevent Russia from participating in the Big Seven (G7) meetings.
According to Voice of America, the document adopted by the House of Representatives of Congress prohibits the use of federal funds by the Washington administration to “support or facilitate the participation of Russia in the meetings of the G7 and the restoration of the G8 with the participation of the Russian Federation “.
The bill states that the return of Russia is possible if the Secretary of State and the Director of National Intelligence of the United States can assure lawmakers that Moscow, “stopped any interference in elections in the United States or other G7 countries, NATO and EU states, fully fulfills its obligations under the Minsk agreements, ended the illegal occupation of Crimea, South Ossetia and Abkhazia and withdrew his troops and weapons from Transnistria“.
Note that after a vote in Congress, the bill must pass the Senate and then be signed by the President of the United States.
We add that according to Reuters, the current head of Bely Donald Trump has no plans to host a G7 summit at home at the end of 2020. The publication writes that the head of the United States has not yet made the decision to hold a meeting, as he should soon transfer power to the president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden.
At the same time, it is noted that the online format of the summit is possible, but no joint statement has yet been worked on.
