The decline of Ukraine’s main export industry has accelerated
Agricultural companies cut production by almost a fifth, the main reduction being in agricultural production.
In Ukraine, from January to October 2020, agricultural production fell by 14.2% compared to the same period in 2019, while the decline has accelerated over the last month. This was reported by the State Statistics Service on Wednesday, November 18.
Agricultural companies reduced production by 18.1%, family farms by 6.8%.
The State Statistics Service clarifies that in agricultural production, production fell by 16.9%, in livestock, by 2.7%.
Recall that previously Ukraine sold agricultural products for $ 17.6 billion. The decrease in the trade balance by 7% is explained by the relatively low prices of grains and oilseeds and their products in the first half of the year.
It was also reported that Ukraine is not fully utilizing its agricultural potential. Ukraine provides food to 150 million people in the world, but can provide up to 500 million, according to the Ministry of Economic Development.
