Russian cosmonauts Ryzhikov and Kud-Sverchkov will have to stay in open space for 5 hours and 33 minutes.

The unidentified object exited the International Space Station and flew into open space when Russian cosmonaut Sergei Ryzhikov exited the search module. This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine with reference to the video broadcast on the Roscosmos website on Wednesday, November 18.

“What do we see? Some strange flying object. Something flew, but something that was not needed. Something accidental,” commented the stations about the incident.

In turn, Interfax, referring to Roskosmos, states that when the cosmonauts left the search module, a soft handrail separated from the pressurized container. But its absence will not affect the work of astronauts in outer space.

“When the cosmonauts left the Search module, the soft handrail of the pressurized container was detached, in which the cosmonauts were carrying the necessary packaging for the work. The handrail is not critical for the work, the extravehicular activity program continues normally” said the Russian state corporation.

The spacewalk of Russian cosmonauts Ryzhikov and Sergei Kud-Sverchkov began early Wednesday. They will have to perform a series of manipulations to prepare for the arrival of the new Russian Science module.

In particular, the cosmonauts will check the tightness of the search module’s hatch, replace the replaceable panel for the liquid flow regulator in the Zarya module, and also carry out a series of works as part of scientific experiments. The astronauts will also have to do the “cleaning” in space: they will clean the outside of the Zvezda module window.

In total, the cosmonauts will have to stay in open space for 5 hours and 33 minutes.

The current ISS crew will have two spacewalks. The second is tentatively scheduled for February 2021. In total, integrating the Science module will require around 10 spacewalks.

Earlier this week, a new patch was installed on the ISS at the site of an air leak. Presumably, you will be able to completely eliminate the air leak, they expect in Roskosmos.

It was also learned that ISS crew members eliminated the malfunctioning of life support systems, including a toilet, a food warmer and an oxygen production system.
