The Swiss edition Blick shared the latest information on the League of Nations match Switzerland – Ukraine, which was supposed to take place tonight.
The match was canceled by decision of the local authorities of the canton of Lucerne, who determined that the entire Ukrainian team should go to quarantine for numerous cases of coronavirus.
As Blick pointed out, both the Swiss national team, the Ukrainian national team and UEFA were ready to play today, but it is impossible to organize a match under the prohibition of the regional authorities.
Whats Next?
It will be difficult for UEFA to attribute a technical defeat to the Ukrainian team, because that Andriy Shevchenko’s team complied with all the rules: Arrived in time for the match and ready to send 13 players, the minimum required by UEFA protocol.
The position of the Swiss team is also clear: It is not our problem that the rival has a coronavirus. We are ready to go to the game, but there is a ban from the authorities.
If it is not possible to celebrate the match tomorrow (Wednesday), there may be a postponement until December or already until 2021. Also, there is an extreme method– Determines the match result by draw (one of the teams wins 1: 0 or draws 0: 0).
The final decision will be made by UEFA.
