UK security officer arrested for systematic bribery

Investigators from the State Investigation Office arrested the head of one of Ukrtranssecurity’s regional departments for systematically receiving illegal benefits. He demanded and received bribes from carriers of 20,000 to 100,000 hryvnia, according to the RRG website.

“Carriers had to pay monthly for the failure to carry out inspections on compliance with the conditions of the fixed route taxi license, compliance with the law in the transport of goods,” the statement said.

In addition, the detained official contributed to the illegal movement of trucks that violate size and weight standards. It organized assistance in the issuance of permits for the transport of passengers and lobbied for the interests of third parties in tenders for the transport of passengers on urban and suburban routes.

During September-November 2020, RRB investigators documented more than 40 extortion acts and the receipt of illicit benefits by an official for a total amount of more than 200 thousand hryvnias.

An employee of Ukrtranssezopasnost was arrested on Monday, November 16, in his office while receiving the next part of a bribe for reducing the amount of penalties in an administrative infraction.

Now the issue of informing the detainee about the suspicion of extortion and obtaining illicit profits, the choice of a preventive measure and the removal from office is resolved.

The official faces a punishment in the form of imprisonment of five to ten years with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or participate in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of assets.

The colonel demanded a “commission” from the owner of the company for making changes to the technical specifications of the goods, which would allow the company to participate in public procurement.
