Why Switzerland will win
(Dmitry Danets)
In the first head-to-head match, the Swiss team lost to Ukraine, but at the same time, it created a lot of problems for our team. The “yellow-blue” mentor Andriy Shevchenko admitted that the Ukrainian team was lucky to have achieved victory in that difficult match.
During the group stage, the Swiss national team demonstrated their ability to play under high pressure, without being afraid of squeezing the players from Ukraine, Spain and Germany in the literal sense of the word.
The Yellow-Blues rarely face pressure from the opponent, and now the coaching staff of the national team will not be able to count on multiple players due to the coronavirus. This means that there will be a lot of inexperienced players on the field who simply cannot cope with the pressure.
The lack of attacking players in the Ukrainian national team, which affected the game against Germany (1: 3), will now also bring negative consequences. Even the players themselves admitted that they lacked “new ideas” in the attack in the second half.
Of course, it is hard to believe that Andriy Shevchenko will play the “bus”, but getting a positive result is extremely important. So what to expect from the Ukrainian team’s defensive play, the control of the ball (and the Swiss can eat something) and a long preparation for the attack?
In turn, the head coach of the Swiss Vladimir Petkovich will force his players to attack from the first minutes, because his team will only settle for a victory, which will allow them to remain in the elite division of the Nations League.
Prediction: 2: 1
Why Ukraine will not lose
(Vasily Voytyuk)
You cannot write about the problems of the Ukraine national team in the fall of 2020. It seems that no national team has such problems with the coronavirus. In October the Shakhtar footballers, now Dynamo players and others, took off.
One more parallel can be drawn with this October collection. A lot was often said about the fact that Andriy Shevchenko’s team plays the first match of pairs matches perfectly, but fails in the second. But in October the opposite happened. The team in the “new” lineup lost two games and then won the third.
There is hope that something similar will happen to our boys this time.
Yes, there are quite a few problems with the roster, but Shevchenko still has 6-8 central players on his squad. Before the first goal conceded by Germany, the idea slipped: “How much is Ukraine like a different team when in the center of the field is the usual Malinovsky-Stepanenko-Zinchenko triangle.”
Unfortunately, after an excellent start, this trio did not live up to expectations, and Zinchenko and Malinovsky frankly played a weak match. Perhaps the minor injuries really helped them in this. If, in the confrontation with the Swiss, our midfield shows itself in all its splendor, Shevchenko’s team will have excellent chances of final success.
It’s also worth remembering that Switzerland has its own problems with the list. They also lost several players and brought in new ones. The Swiss Elvedi and Freuler, who were far from being the last of their team, lost by disqualifications.
Prediction: 1: 1
