Information about this was confirmed by the Konotop district people’s deputy Igor Molotok.

“The newly elected mayor of Konotop, Aleksandr Lugovoi, has passed away. Terrible news and great loss. He won the election and fought desperately for life with an insidious disease.
Alexander Lugovoi ran for mayor of Konotop as a self-nominated candidate and obtained 37% of the vote.
This is the third mayor to die from complications caused by COVID-19. Previously, the mayors of Boryspil and Novgorod-Seversky died of coronavirus.
The death of the mayor of Boryspil: what is known
- At the end of October, the mayor of Borispol, Anatoly Fedorchuk, passed away from complications caused by the coronavirus.
- According to local media reports, Fedorchuk contracted the coronavirus about three weeks ago. Doctors rated Fedorchuk’s condition as moderate. On October 28, the doctors declared him dead.
Death of the mayor of Novgorod-Seversky:
- The mayor of Novgorod-Seversky (Chernihiv region), Oleg Bondarenko, died of COVID-19.
- Bondarenko was transferred to the Chernigov regional hospital in serious condition, but pneumonia had already affected 80% of his lungs by that time.
- Oleg Bondarenko was 47 years old.
- He has held the position of mayor since 2015 and was re-elected in the elections held on October 25.
