Ukraine’s national team and Shakhtar midfielder Viktor Kovalenko returned to Kiev on a UAF contract.
Senior coach Alexei Targonsky commented on the situation with the departure from Germany of the national team players who tested positive for coronavirus.
“Immediately after the COVID-19 test was positive in five representatives of the Ukrainian national team, we discovered the procedure by which the collections could be delivered home.
First of all, it was necessary to wait for permission from the local authorities for infected people to leave the territory of Germany. On the day of the game, November 14, a representative of the local authorities in Leipzig announced that the permit had been received and that the boys were to leave the country next Monday.
The Football Association of Ukraine immediately ordered a 180-seat Embraer aircraft, which, according to medical protocol, was ready to transport the collections to Kiev.
At the same time, English West Ham contacted us, who announced that they were undertaking the delivery of their player, Andrey Yarmolenko, directly to London. Yarmolenko, by the way, flew to London this morning, as did Shakhtar representative Viktor Kovalenko in a UAF-organized letter to Kiev.
Along with Viktor, three Dynamo players were supposed to fly: Viktor Tsygankov, Sergei Sidorchuk and Vadim Komardin. We planned to take off on Sunday morning so the guys could quietly watch the Germany-Ukraine game in their hotel rooms and not go to the airport late at night, as it really happened.
There was not a single need to urgently evacuate the Dynamo on Saturday night, “said Targonskiy.
“Dynamo” organized charter flight for Tsygankov, Sidorchuk and Komardin team manager.
