Moldovan President Igor Dodon said he is ahead of Action and Solidarity party candidate Maia Sandu in the number of votes cast in the country’s presidential elections.
The Moldovan leader said this during a press conference following the closure of polling stations on Sunday, November 15.
“We are closing this stage and moving forward. Thank you for being active and voting for the president. The turnout is record. According to our estimates, we are going to the interior of the country with a large margin (without the diaspora and Transnistria – Ed.) “, – said Dodon.
He also said that his team is still thinking about how to proceed, adding that “the main thing is to overcome the pandemic, pay pensions and salaries.”
“I declare that we will do everything possible to avoid destabilization,” said the President of Moldova.
Dodon called on his sympathizers and supporters of Sandu to calm down, noting that during the election campaign “there was enough dirt, now it is enough.”
As a reminder, according to the results of the exit poll, the victory was won by the candidate of the Acción y Solidaridad party, the former head of government Maia Sandu. She got 55% of the vote, while Dodon got 45%.
Previously, Dodon suggested that the vote count would not work in his favor and therefore his supporters would have to “defend” the reelection of their leader.
