So-called Russian “peacekeepers” are slowly occupying Nagorno-Karabakh after the agreement on a total cessation of hostilities.

This was reported by the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry, Interfax reports.

The occupants have already deployed 25 observation posts there, apparently to “observe the ceasefire.”

Seven posts were established in the Lachin corridor between Karabakh and Armenia, nine more – in the southern area of ​​responsibility (Stepanakert, Agdam, Lachin), ten – in the north (parts of the Terter and Aghdam regions, the settlement of Mardakert ).

Also in Stepanakert, the deployment of the occupiers’ command post to control their troops was completed.

The ministry noted that the parties are observing the ceasefire, the bodies of the dead are being exchanged.

What preceded it

  • The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh intensified in the summer of 2020, and at the end of September it entered the phase of full-scale hostilities, when the Azerbaijani army launched an operation to regain control of this region.
  • At the beginning of November, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as well as the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia, Ilham Aliyev and Vladimir Putin, adopted a declaration on the total cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh as of November 10.
  • According to the agreement reached, the units of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and Armenia stop at their positions.
  • Russian “peacekeepers” will be deployed along the contact line in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia, transport communication in the region will be controlled by the border service of the Russian FSB.
