After the first clash with the Germans as part of the current UEFA Nations League in Kiev, everyone who saw what was happening on the pitch had different opinions about Andriy Shevchenko’s team play. However, all the fans of the Ukrainian team agreed on one position: if only the COVID-19 coronavirus were to bypass us before the return game in Leipzig. It was not overlooked, it was unlucky, it was not saved: you can call what happened on the eve of the November training camp and immediately during its course, but the meaning was the same: in Germany, we were again forced to play without several key players.
Only a successful home game against Spain separated us in a chronological interval from the first game at NSC Olimpiyskiy, but the course of events within our group was so unpredictable that it was in matchday five that we were both able to lose every match. opportunities for the departure of the group, which seemed incredible in these conditions. and becoming the top contender to make the playoffs, with an equally fantastic combination of circumstances.
The nervous start of the match by the Ukrainian team was not a surprise, but the way in which Shevchenko’s team managed to shed the shackles of tension was very encouraging. Acute flank attacks in the conditions of three defenders, the opponents seemed extremely effective, but, unfortunately, our team did not manage to establish regularity in such actions on our part. However, after 12 minutes everything went well. Zubkov in someone else’s penalty area reached the end for the ball to bounce, after which a successful rebound towards Yaremchuk allowed the striker to instantly hit the upper right corner.
Fantastic start to the confrontation, if you look at the events leading up to the match. But the success achieved had to be sustained. And it was with these that serious problems arose. A serious mistake by Zinchenko at another time in the 23rd minute allowed Goretska to immediately send Sanaa into the foray on the right flank of the attack, Leroy encountered no resistance from the defense, after which he fired deep into the far corner.
Germany, like us, managed to attack successfully on the wings, but at the same time, the Ukrainian team also made mistakes by scoring opponents on the way to their own penalty area. Koch was given too much time in the 33rd minute for the shot to the right side of our possessions, after which Goretzka showed the “Bundesliga emblem” in a beautiful jump to the ball, and with the second touch he transferred the chamber to goalkeeper room, where Werner was able to run straight into the empty net.
If we evaluate with a cool head, then the 2: 1 result was not in our favor on the scoreboard when the teams that went to break was a completely fair score. Adequate evaluation of what happens in the field. Ukraine attacked impulsively, but it was precisely because of their nervousness that they could not know more success in the end. All that was left was to believe that Shevchenko’s coaching staff would find methods to calm their charges. Germany did not show absolutely safe football.
We entered the second half with difficulty in the context of the failed end of the first half, but the ball that hit the left post when Zinchenko struck from a semi-circle near the penalty area in the 53rd minute gave hope of movement in a positive direction. This attitude, sadly, did not last long: after ten minutes, Gundogan ran down the center of the field and left our entire midfield line behind him, after which he passed a pass to the right side of the penalty area for Ginter, who he instantly fired under Werner’s finishing blow.
Joachim Lev’s sentries started to play dumb on defense after the third goal scored in their usual style, but the lack of luck at the end of the attacks did not allow the Ukrainians to have more goals scored. At the very least, Moraes ‘kick and Marlos’ signature spin from the right flank of the penalty area should have hit the goal, but the goal frames on either side of Neuer were opposed. Ukraine leaves the Leipzig arena with a feeling of understatement in attack, however you have to admit that our team was predicted a worse scenario against the background of well-known issues.
In the final round of the UEFA Nations League group stage, Germany will play away from home against Spain, while the Ukraine team will play Switzerland.
