It turned out that some fellow citizens simply do not understand (and do not seek to understand) why a petition is needed to protect the rights of Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine, presented by us together with the Telegram channel “Bearded Babushka”.
For me, arguing in the comments is an unaffordable luxury. Therefore, I decided to isolate everything negative and give more or less detailed answers. So, let’s go!
“There is only one state language in Ukraine: Ukrainian!”
We do not challenge this provision of the Constitution in the petition. There is not a word about giving the Russian language the status of a second state language in it. The fact that Ukrainian is the state language does not mean that the use and development of other languages should be prohibited. The Constitution of Ukraine guarantees the development of the Russian language, which is separate from the languages of national minorities. You’re not against the Constitution, are you?
“It’s a shame the Ukrainian never became your native!”
It is not the state or even society that assigns the mother tongue to a person, but the mother, when she drags the first lullaby in a person’s life. Any information is better perceived and assimilated in the native language. That is why it is so important that Russian-speaking citizens receive education in Russian.
“You have to be a fool not to learn the Ukrainian language in thirty years while living in Ukraine!”
Five, ten and even thirty years ago, the Ukrainian language was studied in all schools in our state. The problem is that some compatriots do not see (or refuse to see) the difference between learning a language and learning in it. Why should a Russian-speaking schoolchild study, for example, natural sciences in Ukrainian, if the material is better assimilated in Russian? Do you want “ladies” or “go”?
I myself successfully apply Ukrainian in my professional activities. I prepare documents in the language of the state and, with their help, I speak in court. I have no difficulty in this regard. Although both in school and in university he received knowledge in Russian.
“Ukraine should spend money on Ukrainians and not pay for the education of Russian speakers.”
I can’t believe you have to explain elementary things to adults, but the petition is about Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine. That is, about the Ukrainians. They are endowed with the same rights as Ukrainian speakers. They just speak another language.
Nothing can justify the violation of the rights of Russian-speaking fellow citizens. Russian-speaking Ukrainians are not a national minority or some kind of “alien.” The same Ukrainians, like everyone else.
“Why are there no Ukrainian schools in Russia?”
If you are so concerned about the rights of Ukrainian citizens living in the Russian Federation, this question is not for me. According to article 12 of the Constitution of Ukraine, our state is obliged to satisfy the linguistic needs of Ukrainians living abroad.
It is important to understand that we are currently interested in Russian-speaking Ukrainians and not in citizens of the Russian Federation living on the territory of Ukraine.
“And how is discrimination against Russian speakers manifested?”
Russian is not taught in schools. It can become a school subject only if it is possible to create a Russian language class in a particular school. But even in this case, only 20% of the subjects will be read in Russian.
The rules aimed at the Ukrainianization of education have been in effect since September 1, 2020 for Russian speakers only. But for national minorities who use the languages of the European Union, the Ukrainianization of education was kindly postponed until 2023. But even then, 40 to 80 percent of school subjects will be taught in their mother tongue.
Publication of scientific articles in Ukrainian, English or other languages of the European Union is allowed. In Russian, no.
And a year later, provisions of the law will come into force requiring Russian print media to publish the same circulation in Ukrainian. There is no such requirement and it will not be for the media in Crimean Tatar, as well as for English and other EU languages.
And I just walked to the top. The list can be very, very long. Smart and what has already been announced is enough.
“Ukraine is only for Ukrainians!”
How do you distinguish Ukrainians from non-Ukrainians, my medievals? An hour out of shape and size of the skulls?
Let it be known that Ukraine is a multinational state and the nationality of a citizen does not matter. Thirty percent of Ukrainians, according to the latest census, consider Russian as their mother tongue.
Up to 80% of communication on social networks and more than 50% of informal communication in our country takes place in Russian.
The Russian language does not belong to Russia or anyone else. First of all, it is the language of international communication. A total of 350 million inhabitants of this planet speak Russian. Ukrainians who have lived with us since time immemorial, included.
“The petition is a“ Russian world ”, a“ Russian trail ”and, in general, a betrayal!
We demand that President Zelensky comply with the recommendations of the Venice Commission (recognized representatives of the “Russian world”, yes) regarding legislation on language and education. Its essence lies in the abolition of the norms that establish differentiated rules for the use of Russian and the languages of the European Union, as well as discriminatory norms against Russian-speaking citizens. If the Venice Commission is a “Russian trail” then I don’t even know what to tell you. Unfortunately, I am not a psychiatrist.
