Football.ua understands how the coaching staff of the Ukrainian team won in a friendly match against the Polish team.

In the game against Poland, we saw a rather experimental squad. And even despite the 0: 2 defeat, the feeling that Ukraine played a very good game does not go away. Simply, the realization of opportunities by the Ukrainians was very low and the Poles realized almost everything they had. And the statistics tell us that Ukraine made 5 more shots at their opponent’s goal, and the xG index of the “yellow-blue” is better. Poland: 1.37; Ukraine – 1.65.
In the last training camp, Georgy Buschan had his scoring opportunity and managed to show his great courage in those games, although there was a scoring error in the match against Germany. In the game against Poland, Andriy Shevchenko made it possible for Andrei Lunin to play. The young Real Madrid goalkeeper started off quite confident and made some pretty good saves. But in the 40th minute, Lunin was too smart and scored a goal into his own net.
Poland – Ukraine. Our qualifications
Anticipating the comments on this thesis, let’s say that it is still too early to say goodbye to Pyatov. And in future matches there is no doubt that it will be Shakhtar’s main goalkeeper who will play. Still, experience is important for a goalkeeper, more than for any other position.
At the center of defense, many expected to see Zabarny, who took good form, especially considering the fact that Matvienko and Krivtsov are only “recovering” after the coronavirus. For Krivtsov, this was the first match after his illness. Both played at a good level and it may well be that in the next two games we will see just that combination in the center of defense.
On the right flank, the undisputed Cannabis was heavily involved and generally active, but there was often a feeling that there was no fluid interaction between him and the far right. Although his relationship with Yarmolenko in the first half continued to be better than with Marlos in the second. At the end of the game, Bondar took this position, but it is obvious that Hemp will be the main right back in the next games.
With the left back, not everything is so simple. Bogdan Mikhailichenko played in the match against the Polish team. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. In the first part, together with Zubkov on his flank, they were almost invisible in the attack, in the second part, together with Tsygankov, Miykhalichenko managed to act more clearly.
In future games on the left flank of the defense, we will most likely see Sobol. There is an opinion that many may disagree with, but Mikhailichenko needs to work on his right leg. Too much “one-legged” footballer, which naturally greatly reduces the arsenal of his actions on the flank.
In the center of the field of the usual triangle, we only saw Alexander Zinchenko. The coaching staff decided to give their playing time and reserve Stepanenko and Malinovsky for official matches. Makarenko and Kovalenko, along with Zinchenko, did a good job, but there are simply no players of the level of Malinovsky and Zinchenko in the national team and therefore if one of them does not play, then this is already very noticeable. In the second half, in the game against Poland, Kharatin and Sidorchuk also entered the field, but they were not remembered for anything special. Although, in the case of Sidorchuk, this is already quite good.
On the flanks of the midfield in each half, there was a bias to one side. In the first half of the match, the right flank acted more acutely with Yarmolenko, and in the second, the left flank with Tsygankov. Although it must be said that Tsygankov and Marlos were very interchangeable, and also liked the moments when Tsygankov “threw” Marlos off the flank, thus organizing an “overload” on the left flank of the Polish defense. It was interesting to see the combinations that our players organized in this way. A lot of sharpness was created right after the Tsygankov-Marlos interactions.
In the next match, from the first minutes, Yarmolenko and Tsygankov are most likely worth waiting for, although other options should not be ruled out.
Neither Yaremchuk nor Moraes really managed to show themselves as forwards. The Shakhtar striker is clearly far from his best. And if in the game against Dynamo his acting skills were enough to achieve a result, then in the game against Poland his lack of preparation for the intense pace of the game was surprising. Therefore, we are waiting from the first minutes against Germany Yaremchuk.
In general, the game against Poland went well. Ukraine struggled to create their chances and did not realize them, and the Poles simply scored their goals out of nowhere. Perhaps, the state of a friendly fight affected, and therefore there was no necessary level of concentration. Hard to say. But this match gave Andriy Shevchenko and his assistants a lot of information. Now there are a lot of new people on the team and they need to find the right app.
5-7 years ago, wingers were considered the main attacking force of the Ukrainian team. Konoplyanka and Yarmolenko were the two main stars of our football, from whom came the main threat to the rival goal. Now the trend in the national team is changing: its main asset should be considered the central triangle Zinchenko-Malinovsky-Stepanenko. Only in this combination in the middle of the field Ukraine managed to play the football that Andriy Shevchenko wants so much to see. Taking into account the fact that all three are in the ranks and ready to help the national team, we will make a bold forecast that in the next two games Ukraine will win 3-4 points.
