80% of Ukrainian households have already lost income
According to UN forecasts, the coronavirus will cause poverty in more than nine million Ukrainians. Today, in 40% of families, at least one family member has lost his job. In Donbass, the socio-economic situation will be more destructive.
Due to the coronavirus, Ukraine may face the worst recession in decades, leaving nine million people in our country in poverty. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 80% of Ukrainian households have lost income, according to the press service of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) in Ukraine.
It is also observed that more than 40% of families have at least one family member who has lost his job.
As for the situation in Donbass, in the regions affected by the military conflict, the socio-economic consequences will be simply catastrophic.
“In territories not controlled by Ukraine, 58% of families now reported that they use negative adjustment mechanisms to meet their basic needs, compared to 49% in early 2020,” the UN said in a statement.
We also know about household debts: 15% in September compared to 11% before the start of the pandemic.
As previously reported, as of November 14, a weekend quarantine is being introduced in Ukraine. On weekends the work of entertainment establishments, restaurants, cafes, gyms and non-grocery stores and shopping centers will be prohibited.
