Football.ua remembers previous meetings of neighbors on soccer fields.
The history of confrontation between the Ukrainian and Polish soccer teams began in the last century, in 1998, and since then the teams have played 8 matches with each other, and most of them (5) were official.
At first, the advantage was on the side of the Poles, but 10 years after the first match, the situation began to level and the teams approached their ninth game with absolute equality: 3 wins, 2 draws, the difference between goals scored and fitted is 9: 9.
Ukraine – Poland 1: 2
Friendly match. 07/15/1998. Kiev, NSC Olympic.
Goals: Shevchenko, 87 – Tzhetsyak, 10, Chereshevsky, 54.
Ukraine: Shovkovsky, Starostyak, Mikitin (Dmitrulin, 56), Ezersky (Golovko, 46), Popov (Mikhailenko, 46), Chizhevsky (Vashchuk, 46), Skachenko (Shevchenko, 46), Kalitvintsev (Venglinsky, 78), Zubov (Gusin 46), Kriventsov (Rebrov, 46), Tsikhmeistruk (Kosovsky, 46).
The first meeting of the current rivals came after the Ukrainian team, only due to inadequate refereeing by Rune Pedersen, did not receive the right to go to the World Cup in France instead of Croatia, which finally became almost the main sensation of the World.
There were certain personnel changes in József Szabo’s team, there was no training as such, so in fact it was just a test of the pen before the initial Euro-2000 selection, and the result didn’t really matter. As a result, the fight ended with a minimal defeat, in which Andriy Shevchenko began his scoring streak against the Polish national team.
Ukraine – Poland 1: 3
Qualifying match for the 2002 World Cup. 09/02/2000. Kiev, NSC Olympic.
Goals: Shevchenko, 11 – Olisadebe, 2, 31, Kalyuzhny, 54.
Ukraine: Kernozenko, Luzhny, Timoshchuk (Zubov, 46), Golovko, Vashchuk, Dmitrulin, Gusin, Popov (Kosovsky, 72), Vorobey (Yashkin, 62), Shevchenko, Rebrov.
If the first meeting did not have a special load and was a training with greater responsibility, then the second had an absolutely opposite meaning.
A clear goal was set for the team, which was reflected in numerous billboards, posters, stickers and other elements of the visual campaign: “Our Goal – 2002 !!!”
The fans trusted their national team, and the national team was ready to destroy everyone, and even more so Poland, which was not the favorite. The Poles were openly laughed at, especially by the fact that shortly before the qualifying tournament, they naturalized Emmanuele Olisadebe.
Only the sloths did not joke about the freshly made colorful “Pole” that was immediately nicknamed the “white eagle”, moreover, in the 90s, it was not a masterpiece, but a funny advertisement for a certain product with the same name, which everyone remembered and gave him more inspiration for jokes …
As a result, it was Olisadeba who had to laugh, who became the star of the match, scoring two goals and winning a penalty. He continued his tradition of scoring against Shevchenko against the Poles, but his goal was the only Ukrainian in the match.
Poland – Ukraine 1: 1
Qualifying match for the 2002 World Cup. 06.10.2001. Chorzow, Šlenski stadium.

In the second leg of the same qualifying tournament, in fact, little was decided. Ukraine lost their chances for first place and could only count on getting into the playoffs (in which they ultimately lost to Germany, our next opponent this November after Poland).
Thanks to Shevchenko scoring again, responding to Olisadeba, who scored again, the Ukrainian team did not lose to Poland for the first time in their history.
Ukraine – Poland 1: 0
Friendly match. 08/20/2008. Lviv, Ukraine stadium.
Objective: Kravchenko, 45 years old.
Ukraine: Pyatov, Yarmash, Mikhalik, Chigrinsky, Shevchuk, Nazarenko (Gai, 73), Timoshchuk (Levchenko, 63), Kravchenko (Kalinichenko, 66), Golaydo (Mandzyuk, 90 + 3), Voronin (Shevchenko, 46), Milevschenko (Gomenyukchenko , 46), 58).
And the first victory came for Ukraine in Lviv, lucky for our team. Fate was decided by the only goal from Sergey Kravchenko.
Poland – Ukraine 1: 1
Friendly match. 04.09.2010. Lodz, Widzew Stadium.
Goals: Elena, 42 years old – Seleznev, 90 + 1.
Ukraine: Pyatov, Romanchuk (Kozhanov, 86), Khacheridi, Mikhalik, Fedetskiy, Tymoshchuk, Krasnoperev (Khudobyak, 65), Devich (Voronin, 46), Gusev (Kulakov, 46), Aliev (Polevoy, 54), Shevchenko, 60 (Seleznevyak , 60)).
This match was preceded by many solemn acts with a considerable number of guests of honor, since, in fact, on this day, the joint preparations of Ukraine and Poland for the organization of Euro 2012 began. It is not surprising that it was decided celebrate this event with a soccer game.
It would be an exaggeration to say that Lodz took hold of the football fever, but the fight itself piqued undoubted interest.
The game took place with some advantage for the hosts, who opened the scoring, and when the game inevitably approached the final whistle, no one believed in the success of the guests. No one except Evgeny Seleznev, who was even faster and more energetic then, who came out as a substitute for the last half hour and tied the score in injury time.
Poland – Ukraine 1: 3
Qualifying match for the 2014 World Cup. 03/22/2013. Warsaw, Narodov Stadium.
Goals: Pishchek, 18 – Yarmolenko, 2, Gusev, 7, Zozulya, 45).
Ukraine: Pyatov, Khacheridi, Kucher, Fedetsky, Stepanenko (Timoshchuk, 60), Shevchuk, Rotan, Garmash (Bezus, 90 + 1), Gusev (Morozyuk, 90 + 2), Yarmolenko, Zozulya.
Perhaps one of the best fights of the national team under the leadership of Mikhail Fomenko and the biggest victory of the Ukrainian team over Poland, which allowed them to look forward to a trip to Brazil.
The course of the match was predetermined by two quick goals from Andrey Yarmolenko and Oleg Gusev. And while the hosts did not delay with the answer (albeit a single one), Roman Zozulya restored the two-goal difference even before the break.
The scoring extravaganza did not continue in the second half, but our team’s result could well be called triumphant.
Ukraine – Poland 1: 0
Qualifying match for the 2014 World Cup. 11.10.2013. Kharkov, OSK Metallist.

The second leg of the national team, in which the unconditional, until recently, leaders of the Ukrainian team Andriy Yarmolenko and Yevhen Konoplyanka shone, also ended in victory. It is not surprising that the outcome of the match was decided by his brilliant combination, completed by the current West Ham player.
Ukraine – Poland 0: 1
Euro 2016 group round. 06.21.2016. Marseille, Velodrome stadium.
Goal: Blashchikovsky, 54.
Ukraine: Pyatov, Butko, Khacheridi, Kucher, Fedetsky, Stepanenko, Rotan, Zinchenko (Kovalenko, 73), Yarmolenko, Konoplyanka, Zozulya (Timoshchuk, 90 + 2).
The only meeting between the teams of Ukraine and Poland in the final phase left a bitter residue. The trip of the Ukrainian team to France for the European Championship, which the fans expected so much, ended in complete failure.
After two losses, the encounter with Poland left the opportunity to leave the tournament with his head held high, but after this match, only the replacement made by Mikhail Fomenko in injury time with a score of 0: 1 from the striker ( !) Roman Zozulyu on the holding midfielder (!!) Anatoly Tymoshchuk, whose only useful action on the field was the exchange of post-match shirts (!!!) with the scorer of the only goal, Jakub Blaschikowski …
The Poland – Ukraine match will take place on Wednesday, November 11 in Chorzów, at the Šlenski Stadium, starting at 9:45 p.m. in Kiev.
