The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is considering the possibility of starting education in schools for children from the age of five. This was announced on November 10 by acting minister Sergey Shkarlet on his Telegram channel.

“In some EU countries, education begins at age five and ends at 17. That proposal was also heard at today’s meeting at the Ministry of Education with the heads of regional departments. It is worth considering, bearing in mind consider the standards of the New School of Ukraine, and discuss it in teachers’ councils, in training institutes, with parents. The Ministry of Education is considering all proposals for and against, – said Shkarlet.

He added that it is necessary to find the necessary solutions so that the 12-year school education is convenient and effective for children, teachers and parents.

“The rejection of 12-year school education is an absolute falsehood. The discussion, which has been going on for several years in the educational community about the timing of the start and end of schooling, in no way foresees the return of a period of ten years, “Shkarlet added.

In September 2017, the Rada adopted Law of education”… Entered into force on September 28, 2017. The document introduced the 12-year school education. According to the explanatory note, primary education lasts four years, secondary education obtained in the gymnasium – five years, specialized secondary education will take another three years – must be obtained in a lyceum or vocational educational institutions.
