During the One More Thing presentation, Apple announced a new model of its compact Mac mini. Like the rest of tonight, the device is also based on the Apple M1 processor.
The computer kept its small size, comparable to a book. At the same time, according to manufacturer warranties, the new generation Mac mini has a number of advantages over its predecessor released in 2018. In particular, the new product turned out to be 60% more energy efficient, which is explained by usage of the Apple M1 processor based on the ARM architecture. Despite this, the device provides up to 3 times faster computing performance and up to 6 times faster graphics performance. And the next-generation neural engine delivers a 15x performance boost on machine learning tasks.
According to Apple’s guarantees, the new compact computer is capable of performing a series of tasks many times faster than its predecessor. For example, compiling code in Xcode is 3 times faster. Shadow of the Tomb Raider demonstrates up to 4x the frame rate. Complex projects can be rendered in Final Cut Pro up to 6 times faster. Updating photos in Pixelmator Pro is up to 15 times faster.
The new Apple Mac mini can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 2TB of solid state storage. The system supports the ability to display images on two monitors simultaneously and the ability to connect a 6K monitor. The device has Thunderbolt and USB 4 interfaces.
The new Mac mini with the Apple M1 processor will go on sale on November 17 for a starting configuration of $ 699 – $ 100 less than the previous Intel-based model.
