Svetlana Tikhanovskaya
The Belarusian opponent said that the future president will have his own position of principle on this issue.
Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya claimed that Crimea belongs to Ukraine. He said so in an interview with Ukrinform, which was published on Monday, November 9.
“My personal point of view is that there is international law, legislation. And on the basis of international law, Crimea, of course, belongs to Ukraine,” Tikhanovskaya said.
Commenting on the Russian occupation of Donbass, Tikhanovskaya stated that he opposes any manifestation of aggression.
At the same time, Tikhanovskaya stressed that he cannot speak on behalf of the future president of Belarus, who will be elected after the fall of the Lukashenka regime.
“We will solve those problems when we win ourselves. I am sure that the future president will have his own position of principle, the Belarusian people,” she said.
As for Ukraine’s support for the Belarusian people, the opposition leader called it “important” and “symbolic”.
Let us remind you that members of the Belarusian opposition had previously articulated an evasive position on Crimea. In particular, Tikhanovskaya argued that “legally, Crimea is Ukrainian, in fact Russian.”
He later said that Crimea “went to Russia illegally, but Belarusians have different views on it.”
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said Ukraine is ready to enter into dialogue with the Belarusian opposition when it has a clear position on the annexation of Crimea and Russia’s actions in Donbas.
