In Ukraine, they plan to introduce the weekend quarantine. The Ministry of Health will propose to the Cabinet of Ministers that only grocery stores, pharmacies and veterinary pharmacies, transportation and gas stations operate on Saturdays and Sundays.

This was announced by the Minister of Health, Maxim Stepanov, in a briefing on November 9.

“The situation is quite tense, the incidence of the coronavirus has skyrocketed during the week. In that sense, we decided to strengthen the quarantine restrictions.” and we will offer a strict quarantine weekend. Our proposal is that from 00:00 hours on Saturday to 00:00 hours on Monday in our country only grocery stores, pharmacies, transportation, gas stations, veterinary pharmacies work.

Everything else about restaurants, cafes and other catering establishments so that they work exclusively “to go”. As for the rest of shops, shopping and leisure centers we recommend that they close on Saturdays and Sundays. This also applies to other entertainment venues, entertainment events, so that they do not happen on Saturdays and Sundays.

Why are we doing this? It is important for us to break the chain of disease transmission. If nothing works on the weekend, then the number of people-to-people contacts will be minimal. This will provide an opportunity to “break the wave” of the spread of the coronavirus in these two days. ” Maxim Stepanov said.

With the help of a weekend quarantine, the Health Ministry hopes to avoid a complete lockdown, which some European countries have reintroduced.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Health said that the weekend quarantine could be introduced from November 14.
