The Armenian Defense Ministry stated that Azerbaijani troops planned to enter the city of Shushi, not far from the capital of the autonomous region, Khankendi. They say they have already been able to get close to the roads leading into the city and continue to join forces.

As of now, the Armenian army is resisting, the fighting is tough and tenacious. The representative of the Armenian Ministry of Defense, Artsruni Hovhannisyan, stated this, Interfax reports.

Interestingly, Azerbaijani troops occupied 16 villages in Nagorno-Karabakh

It claims that Azerbaijan suffers heavy losses in the battles for the city, but continues to draw its own forces there. According to the Armenian official, the bloody battles for Shushi have lasted for three days.

In addition, hostilities continue in the nearby settlements of Karintak and Lisagor. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan announced the destruction of the military column of the Armenian Rifle Division.

Due to the bombardment of a military convoy moving from Aghdam to Khankendi and consisting of three KamAZ vehicles, two Ural vehicles and two BMPs, a large number of enemy troops were destroyed.
– said the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan.

Because it is important

The city of Shushi is located in the depths of Nagorno-Karabakh and very close to Khankendi (or in Armenian Stepanakert), the center of the unrecognized “Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh”.

If the Azerbaijani troops were able to advance so deeply, this may mean that very soon they will enter Khankendi and liberate the administrative capital from the occupied territories.
