The World Health Organization (WHO) said that coronavirus infection in mink has been reported in five other countries besides Denmark. According to them, the minks are infected with COVID-19 from humans.
It is reported by the WHO.
Currently, infected minks have been reported on farms in Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Italy and the United States. Cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been identified during testing in mink, dogs, domestic cats, lions, and tigers.
The organization’s experts assume that when the infection spreads between humans and animals, “genetic modification of the virus is possible.” It can be found by examining the sequence of the genome. At the moment, specialists are not clear what consequences these mutations can have.
Recall that in Denmark 214 cases of transmission of the new mink coronavirus to humans have been identified. Due to the new strain of mutated coronavirus, 17 million minks will be destroyed.
In addition, the World Health Organization said that the world must prepare for a new pandemic.
