Zhvanetsky = Odessa
Zhvanetsky was born in Odessa and spent his entire life talking about this city. There is Zhvanetsky Boulevard in the Primorsky district of Odessa. A sculpture of a satirist is in the literary museum of the city.
The comedian recalled that he worked in the port of Odessa: “Eight years of loading and unloading, traveling in a forklift, sitting on a steamer, in a warehouse, in a corner, when only eyes and teeth are seen. I grew up there.”

In March 2014, Zhvanetsky signed an artists’ appeal against the occupation of Crimea. In 2015, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine added him to the “white list” of artists who supported Ukraine.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condolences on the death of satirist Mikhail Zhvanetsky and called himself a fan.
“As Mikhail Zhvanetsky said, it’s okay if they laugh at you. It’s much worse when they cry for you. Today is such a bitter day, ”Zelensky wrote.
Singer Alla Pugacheva called Zhvanetsky’s death an irreparable loss.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called Zhvanetsky’s stories and aphorisms symbolic of an entire era.
“There are people who stand out in the country. They understand the country like no one else, they listen to it and express it with much more precision and, what is more important, more truthful than politicians, journalists, etc. That was Vysotsky. Zhvanetsky’s dismissal will not take place due to the coronavirus pandemic, said his representative Oleg Stashkevich.
