2020 US Elections – What is known, how was the vote and what were the results

The vote count in the US presidential election has almost reached the goal. Candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden closed the gap in key “swinging” states overnight, although the Democratic nominee has a slight edge and his chances of winning appear to be slightly higher so far.

But not a single candidate can reliably claim that they won, and both venues said they have every chance of winning.

Trump is suing for counting votes

Democratic candidate Joe Biden said he would not announce his victory in the presidential election for now, but did not hesitate once the counting of all the votes was completed. He is confident that he has won leadership in enough states to get 270 electoral votes.

In turn, Donald Trump announced fraud in several states. The team of current US President Donald Trump went to court at night to suspend the counting of votes in Georgia.

Georgia became the third state where Trump officially demanded that the count stop. Prior to this, similar claims were sent to the Michigan and Pennsylvania courts. Trump also intends to get a review of the election results in Wisconsin, where Joe Biden won by a 0.7% margin.

US President Donald Trump’s attorney Rudolph Giuliani has announced possible plans to file a federal election lawsuit.

The elections were competitive

The OSCE criticized the statements of the current president of the United States of America, Donald Trump, on alleged massive electoral violations. Such statements damage the credibility of American democratic institutions.

The organization also said that the appeal process for holding elections in the United States began too late.

In general, the US elections were competitive but were clouded by legal uncertainty, observers said.

States in dispute

The gap between the candidates in the key Rust Belt states – Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, which brought Trump to the White House four years ago – is very small. However, on Wednesday night, major world media, including Reuters and the New York Times, as well as CNN, announced Biden’s victory in Michigan.

In Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia, the official vote count has yet to be completed, but the current US president is now at the helm. The decisive role is now played by the state of Nevada, where Biden previously led.

Thursday morning results

Biden maintains a slight lead in several key states, but Trump’s results, as in 2016, have outperformed analysts’ predictions. A candidate needs 270 of the 538 electoral college votes to win. As of the morning of November 5, according to CNN calculations, Biden has 253 votes, Trump has 213.

There are still undecided winners in 6 other states: Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Alaska.

At 7:00, Trump leads Georgia: 49.7% to Biden’s 49.1%. In North Carolina, Trump has 50.1%, Biden 48.6%. Pennsylvania, where 50.7% have already voted for Trump and 48.1% for Biden. In Alaska, Trump has 62.9%, Biden 33%.

Biden, in turn, occupies a leadership position in Nevada 49.3% compared to 48.7% for Trump. In Arizona, the Democratic candidate has 50.7% and the head of the White House 47.9%.

Note that turnout in general elections in the United States was the highest in 120 years. According to preliminary information, 160 million people voted in the elections.
